As a mentor, you will play a crucial role in preparing future special educators in our PELSB-approved Academic & Behavioral Strategist (ABS) licensure program.  Our program integrates mentors into its framework, fostering meaningful relationships with teacher candidates as they complete their two-year program and earn their ABS license.

Mentor Benefits:

  • Paid position: Earn $2,400 per academic year per candidate ($1,200 per semester).  You may mentor up to two candidates each academic year.

Job Duties:
Mentor expectation:
  • Weekly Meetings: Conduct weekly individual meetings with mentees, either virtually or in person.
  • Training: Complete online training modules and the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) in your first semester.
  • Development: Participate in monthly meetings with the LDA Mentor Manager and attend three cultural deep-dive presentations each semester.
  • Feedback: Provide teaching feedback through our video review program.
Experience Desired:
Mentors must hold a current special education license in Minnesota and have a minimum of three years experience as a Tier 3 or 4 licensed teacher of record in special education.
